Nigel is a highly experienced journalist and higher education professional and academic. He has worked as a newspaper and television journalist, foreign correspondent, producer, and documentary-maker working nationally and internationally with renowned UK newspaper and television media outlets.

As well as his role at HBU-UCLan, Nigel has held posts as a lecturer in journalism at Leeds Trinity University (UK), Leeds Metropolitan University (UK), University of Teesside (UK) and University of Sunderland (UK).

Nigel qualified as a journalist at the National Council for the Training of Journalists and has a post graduate MA is Journalism from the University of Newcastle (UK) and a post graduate certificate of Higher Education from Leeds Metropolitan University (MA).

Nigel has received several prestigious awards for his work as a journalist including; News Reporter of the Year in the Thomson Regional Newspapers Awards (1992); Investigative Reporter of the Year in the North East Press Awards (1993) and Royal Television Society (2005) Best Factual Programme in the North of England.

Nigel is also a photographer and published author.
